Is terminal illness cover the same as critical illness cover?
No. Terminal illness cover is usually built into life insurance and pays the life cover early if you are diagnosed with an illness expected to lead to death within a set period, commonly 12 months. Critical illness cover is a separate benefit that pays on diagnosis of a listed serious condition, whether or not it is terminal.
Terminal illness benefit
The payment is the life cover paid early, so the policy then ends. It is often not available in the final months of the policy term.
Critical illness cover
Pays a lump sum on diagnosis of a covered condition that meets its definition. Many people with a critical illness recover, and the money can help with income or costs while they do.
