Does my policy include fracture cover?
Some critical illness policies include fracture cover, or offer it as an optional extra. It usually pays a fixed amount for specified fractures, such as a broken hip or leg. Many policies do not include it. Your policy schedule or key features will show whether you have it.
How it works
Fracture cover typically lists the bones covered and the amount paid for each. Payments are usually small compared with the main critical illness benefit and do not reduce it.
Limits
There may be a cap on how much can be paid in a year or over the life of the policy. Some fractures, such as those caused by osteoporosis, may be excluded.
Adding it later
Ask your insurer whether fracture cover can be added to your existing policy. It may increase your premium.
