Why might a critical illness claim be declined?
The most common reasons are that the condition does not meet the policy definition, for example it is not severe enough, or that information was not disclosed when the policy was taken out. Occasionally a condition is excluded. Most claims are paid. If yours is declined, ask the insurer to explain in writing.
Partial payments
A condition that does not meet the full definition may still qualify for a smaller payment.
Further evidence
If you think information was missed, send it and ask for a review.
Complaints
If you disagree, complain to the insurer and then to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
