Does income protection help me get back to work?
Many income protection policies include rehabilitation support, such as physiotherapy, counselling, or help planning a phased return with your employer. Some insurers offer this early, even before a claim is accepted. What is available depends on the insurer and policy, so ask what support you can use.
Types of support
Commonly offered services include nurse case managers, mental health support, physiotherapy and vocational rehabilitation. Some are available to policyholders at any time, not only during a claim.
Returning gradually
Many policies pay a reduced benefit if you return to work part-time or on lower pay, to support a gradual return. Check whether yours includes this.
Contact the insurer early
Telling the insurer as soon as you are off work gives more time to put support in place, which can help both your recovery and your claim.
