What does 'suited occupation' mean?
Suited occupation is a definition used in some income protection policies. It means you can claim if illness or injury stops you doing your own job and any other job you could reasonably do given your education, training and experience. It is narrower than own occupation cover.
An example
If a teacher could no longer teach but could work as a tutor or in education administration, a suited occupation policy might not pay, whereas own occupation cover might.
Where to find your definition
Your policy schedule and terms state the definition. Some policies use own occupation for part of the claim and suited occupation later.
If your job changes
Tell your insurer if your occupation changes, as it can affect how a claim is assessed.
