Can my insurance give me mental health support?
Many protection policies include mental health support, such as counselling sessions or access to a helpline, as an added benefit. These are often available to policyholders at any time, without making a claim. What is offered varies between insurers, so check your policy documents or ask your insurer.
How to access it
Added benefits are usually provided by a partner service, with a phone number or app shown in your welcome pack or on the insurer's website.
Claims for mental health
Income protection can pay if a mental health condition stops you working, subject to the policy terms and any exclusions.
If you need urgent help
If you are in crisis, contact your GP, NHS 111 or emergency services. Insurer services are not a replacement for urgent care.
