How do I correct information my insurer holds about me?

All protection
The short answer

Contact your insurer and explain what is wrong. You have the right under data protection law to have inaccurate personal information corrected. If the error could affect your cover, premium or a claim, such as a wrong date of birth or incorrect medical answer, tell them straight away so they can review it.

Evidence

The insurer may ask for documents, such as your passport or a letter from your GP, to confirm the correct details.

Application mistakes

If you realise an answer on your application was wrong, telling the insurer now is far better than discovering it at claim time.

If they do not correct it

You can complain to the insurer and, for data protection issues, contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
