How do I know whether my policy is already in trust?
Check your policy documents for a trust deed or form, which would have been completed when the policy started or later. The insurer can also confirm whether a trust is registered on its records. If the policy is in trust, the documents should name the trustees and beneficiaries or the trust type.
Ask the insurer
Contact the insurer with your policy number. They can tell you whether a trust is held and send a copy if needed.
If it is not in trust
Many insurers provide trust forms free of charge, and you can usually put an existing policy in trust. An adviser can help you decide whether it is right for you.
Keep copies safe
Store the trust deed with the policy documents and tell your trustees where it is.
