Do I really need indexation?
It depends on how long your policy runs and what it is for. Over a long term, inflation reduces what a fixed payout can buy, and indexation helps cover keep pace. If the cover is meant to repay a fixed debt, such as a mortgage, increases may not be needed. Each increase also raises your premium.
Declining increases
Many policies let you decline an increase. Some stop offering them after you decline a certain number.
Family income needs
Cover meant to replace income or support children usually benefits most from indexation.
Review periodically
Check every few years whether the cover still matches your needs.
