Should I send medical details by email/chat?
Only through a secure route your insurer or adviser has confirmed. Ordinary email and chat may not be secure. Many insurers provide a secure upload portal or ask doctors to send reports directly with your consent. If you are unsure, ask how they would like to receive the information before sending anything.
Why it matters
Medical information is sensitive personal data. Sending it securely protects your privacy and reduces the risk of it being seen by the wrong person.
Check who you are sending it to
Only send information to contact details from your policy documents or the insurer's official website, not to an address in an unexpected message.
Doctors' reports
Insurers often request reports directly from your GP or specialist. You will be asked to give consent first.
This article is general information about UK protection insurance, not personalised financial advice. Policy terms vary between insurers and products, so always check your own policy documents.
