Do I have to have a medical to get life insurance?

Underwriting
The short answer

Usually not. Most people are assessed using their application answers alone. Insurers may ask for a GP report or a nurse screening if you apply for a large amount of cover, are older, or have certain health conditions. Any medical is usually arranged at the insurer's cost and at a time that suits you.

What a screening involves

Typically height, weight, blood pressure and sometimes a blood or urine sample.

GP reports

You can usually ask to see a GP report before it is sent.

Delays

Waiting for medical evidence can slow an application. Respond to requests promptly.
