How do I change the bank account my premium comes from?

All protection
The short answer

Contact your insurer to set up a new direct debit from your new account. Many insurers let you do this online or by phone. Keep your old account open, or the old direct debit active, until the insurer confirms the new one is in place, so no payment is missed.

If you are switching banks

The Current Account Switch Service usually moves direct debits automatically. Check your insurer's payment still goes through on the new account.

Watch the next payment

Confirm the first payment from the new account has been taken.

If a payment fails

Contact the insurer straight away to avoid your policy lapsing.
