I don't know my policy number — can you still help?

All protection
The short answer

Yes. Insurers can usually find a policy using your full name, date of birth and address. Bank statements showing the direct debit, emails from the insurer or the adviser who arranged the cover can also help. You will be asked security questions before details are shared.

Where to look first

Check your bank statements for the insurer's name on the direct debit, your email for policy documents and any paperwork from when you took out a mortgage.

If it is someone else's policy

If you are trying to find a policy for someone who has died, the insurer will need their details and a copy of the death certificate. They can only share limited information until a claim is made.

Keep a note for next time

Once found, keep the policy number with your important documents and tell someone you trust where it is.
